The campaign for 2024 is already well underway, and because President Biden hasn’t declared his reelection bid, there is a lot of conjecture about who may succeed him. Due to her position as second in charge, Vice President Kamala Harris is an apparent choice as Biden’s prospective successor. Will she enter the competition?

Despite a recent rise in her approval rating, Harris’s popularity has been low in recent surveys leading up to the midterm elections. According to poll aggregator FiveThirtyEight, Harris is unpopular with 50.5% of Americans, while his approval rating is merely 38%.
Republicans who are critical of the administration’s immigration policy have focused in particular on Harris. After claiming that the U.S. borders were safe, Harris came under fire, and leaders in border communities chastised her for avoiding the region. Harris’ house was a target for migrant buses in September, according to Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R).
Abbott tweeted, “We will continue bringing migrants to sanctuary towns like D.C. until Pres. Biden & Border Czar Harris stand up & do their duties to protect the border,” on the day he dispatched the first two buses to Harris’s residence in Washington, D.C.
During an appearance with Abbott on NBC’s Late Night With Seth Meyers, Harris retaliated at Abbott for displacing the refugees. They are seeking sanctuary here in the United States after fleeing terrible violence, according to Harris. “And speak of political theatre, which is to say, toying with people’s lives. You know, women were exiting those buses with sleeping infants.” Tim Ryan (D), who is running for the Ohio Senate against J.D. Vance (R), criticised Harris’ stance on border security at a recent debate. Ryan said, “Kamala Harris is totally wrong on that,” when asked if he agreed with Harris’ claim that the border is secure.
As the midterm elections approach, Harris seems to be attempting to improve her reputation. According to Politico, she just recruited a new speech writer, the third individual to hold that post since she began serving as vice president. She has received criticism for several of her previous remarks, including one in Guatemala when she advised migrants to “not come.” With several staff quitting at the beginning of her tenure, Harris’ office had trouble getting going. This quick turnover includes Rohini Kosoglu, the vice president’s domestic policy advisor, who has worked for Harris since she was in the Senate, as well as her most recent speechwriter, according to Fox News.
Has Harris declared his intention to run in 2024?
Informally, Harris has not declared that she would seek the presidency in 2024. An analyst for The Washington Post ranked Harris near the top of probable candidates for the Democratic primary if Biden decides not to seek reelection, while the general public patiently awaits his decision.
In an interview with NBC’s Meet the Press, Harris stated that she was “extremely proud” of her position as Biden’s vice president and reaffirmed her commitment to running for another term in office if he prefer to run.
“The president has made it quite obvious that he wants to run for office again. And if he does, I’ll be proudly jogging with him “She said. Although he has hinted that he may run again, Biden has not yet formally begun his campaign.
There is growing debate about whether Harris is attempting to get ready for the worse-case scenario. Harris recently travelled to Michigan to support Democratic incumbent Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. The two seem to be solid allies, but according to the Los Angeles Times, some political analysts thought their campaign hinted to a future contest in either the 2024 or 2028 presidential elections.
Biden has he decided to run?
The likelihood that Harris will run in 2024 is highly dependent on Biden’s decision. Although Biden has not formally announced that he would run for re-election, he has stated that he does plan to do so.
The duties associated with such a choice prevented Biden from making an official announcement during an appearance with CBS News’ 60 Minutes in September. He made it clear that just because he says he intends to do something doesn’t mean he would. That decision is still up for debate.
As I stated at the outset, Biden remarked, “Look, my aim is that I would run again.” “However, it’s only an intention. But have you really decided that I should run again? That is still up in the air.”
If Biden decides not to run, how do voters feel about Harris’ inclusion on the ballot?
Harris’ possibilities for the 2024 election have been discussed by Democratic strategists and advisers. Some others think that supporting Harris would be a mistake since she wouldn’t be able to stave against more powerful foes. They cite the expanding list of additional possible Democratic primary challengers who are beginning to see some movement in the polls. She wouldn’t stand a chance against probable Republican contenders like Trump or Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, according to several analysts (R).
According to polling data, these strategists could be underestimating Harris’ potential level of support among Democrat voters. Voters appear to be considering their alternatives for a primary in 2024 without Biden, and polling data is actually encouraging for Harris as the next Democratic contender. According to a September Morning Consult/Politico survey, Harris would be the preferred presidential candidate if Biden decided not to run, with 28% of likely voters siding with her. The poll also showed that more people—up from 51 percent to 59 percent in the most recent survey—believe that Biden should seek re-election.
Close According to The New York Times, former Connecticut senator Chris J. Dodd, a supporter of Biden, lauded Harris for her work as vice president thus far and predicted that Harris would appear on the ballot in 2024. “I’m hopeful the president runs for re-election, but if that’s not the case, for whatever reason, it’s unlikely that Kamala would be on the short list, Dodd said. She serves as the vice president of the US.”
If the 2024 race is competitive, Harris has a good chance of winning according to the Harvard CAPS/Harris survey from October. With 25% of the electorate’s support, Harris is in the lead among those who would run for president in 2024 if Biden declines to do so.
