Sarah Palin defeated by Mary Peltola
After Sarah Palin, the Republican Vice President Candidate lost her bid for Alaska’s only seat in the House of Representatives (to Mary Peltola), Palin has been the subject of ridicule and mockery online.
Palin, former Alaska governor, lost to Peltola in the second election just three months after the Democrat won a special election in late august to replace Republican Congressman Don Young.
Peltola, the first Alaska Native woman elected to Congress, has increased her vote share by 55% to 45 percent over Palin during the midterm elections. She beat Palin, Donald Trump’s endorsed, by 55% to 45%.
This result ended Palin’s political comeback attempt. It also proved that the expected “red wave,” predicted to occur in the midterm elections, did not materialize. Other Trump-backed candidate lost their respective races.
After Palin’s defeat was confirmed, memes and jokes were everywhere on social media.
“Third time I’ve seen Sarah Palin lose, it never gets old,” tweeted Jeff Singer (elections editor at The Daily Kos).
Brian Tyler Cohen, a political commentator, wrote that Mary Peltola defeated Sarah Palin and was the first Democrat to represent Alaska at the House in 50 years. If you’re curious about the “red wave,” here’s a brief explanation.
The Duty to Warn group’s Twitter account wrote: “Sarah Palin lost another time in her attempt to imitate Trump.”
Majid Padellan is better known as Brooklyn Dad’s popular left-wing Twitter account Brooklyn Dad. He tweeted: “FUN FACT – Mary Peltola (D-Alaska) has defeated Sarah Palin TWICE this season. She is a defeat I can see from my home.
Padilla was referring to a sketch from 2008 Saturday Night Live in which Tina Fey played Palin mocking a comment that the vice-presidential nominee had made in an interview: Russia “are our next-door neighbors” and that you could see Russia from Alaska,”– a statement which is valid for certain parts of the state.
Jeff Timmer is an ex-executive director of the Michigan Republican Party and is now a senior advisor for The Lincoln Project. He wrote, “MAGA Sarah Palin’s mother lost twice this year. As a Republican. In friggin Alaska. This takes some effort.”
The USA Singers, a political comedy musical group, added that Sarah Palin is better at killing majestic animals by helicopters than she was at winning elections.
The former governor of Alaska is an avid hunter and supports controversial techniques like using aircraft to reduce the number of predators in Alaska, such as wolves or bears.
Peltola posted a video of a dancing crab after her win and tweeted, “WE DID IT.”
