The Princess Diaries 3
You’re now ready to book your flight to Genovia. On November 15th. The Hollywood Reporter exclusively announced that a brand new Princess Diaries film was being developed at Disney.

The confirmation was welcome news to fans of the franchise who’ve been waiting almost two decades for the return of Anne Hathaway’s awkward high schooler-turned-monarch Mia Thermopolis. Still, rumors of another sequel have, of course, been swirling for years. In 2016, Garry Marshall, the director of the original film and its charming sequel, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement was in a discussion about the possibility of making a sequel.
However, the idea was temporarily put on hold due to his death later in the year. Discussions gradually resurfaced over the subsequent years, and during an appearance on television in 2019, Hathaway confirmed that there indeed was an outline for the sequel. “I am interested in doing the script. Julie [Andrews] wants to make it happen. Debra Martin Chase, our producer, would like to make it happen,” she said. “We are all very much hoping for that to be the case, but we’re not going to make it happen unless it’s perfect since we love it the way you enjoy it.”

It’s somewhat surprising to learn that, as per The Hollywood Reporter‘s sources, Hathaway does not yet have a contract to be a part of for The Princess Diaries 3. Still, something tells us that it’s just an issue of time until the Oscar winner is officially a part of the fold. Last month, when she was asked about the film, Hathaway said: “I would more than be entertained if I’m going to be a part of it.”
But we know that Debra Martin Chase, who was a part of the first two films, will be in charge of the production duties. Aadrita Mukerji ( Scorpion, Supergirl, Reacher) is the one who wrote the script. In addition, to ease the fears of the purists, the sources say to the report that it will be an ongoing series, not a reboot.

A few questions remain. Will Julie Andrews, who, despite playing Bridgerton‘s Lady Whistledown, hasn’t appeared on screen since 2017, recreate her character as the elegant, shrewdly diplomatic ex-Queen Clarisse? What do you think of Heather Matarazzo’s quirky best friend Lily Chris Pine’s stunning Nicholas Devereaux, or Mandy Moore’s sharp-witted character Lana Thomas from the first film (the former has recently stated that it would “love to” appear)? We’ll keep our fingers crossed that there will be more transformations, sparkling balls, brutal humor, hilarious set pieces, and plenty of mattresses surfing.
