Nevada senate election 2022 results: Who won the election Democrats or Republicans?

Nevada incumbent Senator. According to the Associated Press call of the race, Catherine Cortez Masto survived a challenge, beating Republican Adam Laxalt and helping Democrats retain the U.S. Senate.

Nevada was among Republicans’ top priorities as they attempted to end the 50-50 split in the Senate, and Cortez Masto’s election was a contest at the time of the race. She was in a close race with Laxalt, the former attorney general, and the president of the past, Donald Trump.

Cortez Masto was elected twice as the attorney general of Nevada before getting the title of the only Latina elected into Senate in the U.S. Senate in 2016. She campaigned for the reproductive rights of women and criticized Laxalt for declaring the Roe v. Wade decision “a joke,” the Nevada Independent reported and categorizing the vote of her opponent as an automatic vote for a ban on abortions in the United States. “

Laxalt attempted to draw supporters in with his promise to tackle rising inflation. This he attributes to the poor decisions made by Cortez Massto and President Biden. Laxalt also said he would aid in securing America’s southern border, including the possibility of resuming Trump’s border wall.

Nevada could decide the Senate’s race for control. Officials continue to count ballots Saturday in a close race after Sen. Mark Kelly (D. Arizona) was declared the winner. On Saturday morning, Democratic incumbent Catherine Cortez Masto trailed Republican Adam Laxalt by less than 900 votes.

The Nevada Independent estimates Saturday there are still thousands of ballots to count across the state. This includes approximately 23,000 from Clark County (the state’s largest, most reliably blue county) and 8,000 from Battleground Washoe County. A few thousand ballots remain uncounted in rural areas and provisional votes in Clark County.

The Nevada race could be called on Saturday. It would be similar to the 2020 presidential election when Joe Biden was declared the winner after Americans went to the polls. Clark County’s chief elections officer Joe Gloria stated this week that he expected that the vast majority (over 90%) of mail ballots would have been tallied by Saturday.

After Kelly’s win against Republican Blake Masters of Arizona, Nevada is now in wait.

If Cortez Massto wins, Democrats will retain control of the Senate. If Laxalt wins the election, the country will again go to Georgia for a runoff to determine the balance of power.

Saturday’s acknowledgment by Laxalt that the count is trending in favor of his opponent was a positive sign.

“Here’s where we stand — we have only 862 votes”. He tweeted that most mail-in ballots are counted in higher DEM margins for multiple days. This has reduced our win window. The race will be down to 20-30K Election Day Clark drop-off ballots.

Laxalt said, “If they’re GOP precincts and slightly DEM-leaning, then we can still win.” She will win if they keep trending heavy DEM.

On Saturday, the battle for the House was still open. The current situation is that Republicans hold 211 seats while Democrats have 199. To win, 218 seats are required. There are still votes that need to be counted in many races.

While the GOP is still likely to regain control of the House of Representatives, Democrats are more likely to retain their majority if the Democrats win the remaining tossups. Positive news for Democrats Saturday night came from Washington’s 3rd District. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez defeated Donald Trump-endorsed Joe Kent.

This is a devastating loss for Trump and the GOP, who has held the District for over a decade. Kent, a MAGA fanatic who believed in Trump’s 2020 election lies, received his endorsement. He then defeated Jaime Herrera Beutler, the Republican primary winner. Herrera Beutler had voted for Trump’s impeachment.

“The people of my district want representation that focuses solely on finding common ground and delivering outcomes, not extreme hyperpartisanship or clickbait politics,” Gluesenkamp perez stated in a statement.

Republicans were disappointed to see Democrats on the verge of holding the Senate. They had hoped for a red wave that would sweep them to power. The Senate GOP’s campaign armchair, Senator Rick Scott, predicted that Republicans would win at most 52 seats.

Infighting and finger-pointing have erupted within the GOP as a result of the GOP’s disappointing results. Republicans blame everyone, from Scott to former President Donald Trump to Minority leader Mitch McConnell, for their losses.

Midterm elections are a boon to the party in power. Inflation and rising crime put the GOP in a more favorable political climate. Another “fundamental” was against the party. The Supreme Court’s decision to end the country’s almost 50-year-old national right to abortion significantly boosted many voters, particularly those from the Democratic base.

However, the GOP did have a bright spot in Nevada’s governor’s race. Democratic Gov. Joe Lombardo was elected the Republican Clark County sheriff. Steve Sisolak accepted. Lombardo was one the most sought-after gubernatorial candidates this cycle. Lombardo’s win makes them the only Republican to defeat a Democratic incumbent. This disappoints Republicans, who failed to win many states, including New Mexico, Minnesota, and New York.
