“The chest pressure that he felt just prior to his death could be the first sign of the symptoms. There is no way that CPR or shocks could have helped his life. The cause of his death was not COVID. His death was not connected to the status of vaccination. There was nothing criminal concerning his death.” Gounder wrote.

An aneurysm is an infected spot within which the blood vessel expands or expands. In the case of Wahl, the bulge was found in the aorta, which is the largest artery for carrying the circulation of blood from the heart. An ascending aortic aneurysm occurs if the bulge is situated in the part of the aorta closest to the heart, just at the point where it starts to rise through the left side of the chamber of the pumping system.

If not treated, Aneurysms could cause the blood vessel to break or rupture, leading to death.

An aortic aneurysm can be described as an abnormal bulge in the aorta, an artery with a large diameter that transports blood from your heart into the chest and the torso, as per the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

You cannot often endure an experience such as the one that happened to Wahl CNN’s Medical Correspondent, Dr. Tara Narula, a practicing cardiologist. Narula explained that the presence of blood within the sac surrounding the heart indicates that the artery’s wall ruptured.

“Normally there’s not any blood in this space. The thing that could happen is in the event that there’s enough blood can get into the area and the heart is unable to beat as it makes the heart more tense, and then you could suffer an cardiac arrest,” she said, noting that she was unable to comment specifically on what happened to Wahl since she doesn’t have any specific knowledge about his situation.

Aortic aneurysms caused the cause of death for around 10,000 people in 2019, According to US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Aneurysms that occur in the chest are more common with the passage of time. They’re a little more frequent for men than women, as per the American Heart Association. They’re usually the result of high blood pressure from an unexpected injury or an underlying history of high cholesterol or smoking.

Certain genetic conditions, such as Marfan syndrome or Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, may make it more likely for someone to be affected by one.

Aortic Aneurysm symptoms and treatments

  • Aortic aneurysm symptoms can include:
  • The chest or back
  • Breathing shortness
  • Involuntary breathing problems or difficulty swallowing
  • Hoarseness
  • Cough

It is not common for everyone to suffer from symptoms, even if an aneurysm is large. The actor John Ritter died suddenly in 2003 due to an aortic aorta while practicing on the set.

If an aneurysm can be detected correctly, it could be treated using surgery or medication.

According to the American Heart Association, aortic aneurysms are becoming more common in the last ten years and have increased by 75%. Yet, they aren’t common and occur in 2 out of 100,000 individuals.

Due to their connection with smoking tobacco And their connection with smoking, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force suggests that all smokers undergo an ultrasound examination 65 and 75 to check for abdominal aortic aneurysms even if they do not exhibit symptoms. Abdominal aortic aneurysms are a bulge of this artery that may rupture in the abdomen.

His wife said that U.S. soccer journalist Grant Wahl passed away from an aortic aneurysm as he covered the World Cup in Qatar.

A journalist for soccer, Grant Wahl died of an Aortic Aneurysm in Qatar, the country where he covered his coverage of the World Cup, his wife announced on Wednesday, citing an autopsy.

Wahl, 49, was covering the Argentina-Netherlands quarterfinal match Friday when he “fell ill” and was tended to on-site by paramedics and taken to a hospital, Qatar officials said last week. The death certificate was issued within minutes.

His body was discovered in New York City on Monday and was later transferred to the medical examiner’s office in the city.

His wife his doctor wife, Dr. Celine Gounder, revealed the reason for Wahl’s death during “CBS Mornings” on Wednesday.

“He underwent an autopsy at New York by the New York City medical examiner’s office. It revealed that he was suffering from an aortic rupture,” she said on the show.

“It’s one of those issues that has been in the making for a long time,” she added.

Gounder, an expert in infectious diseases, released a statement about Wahl Substack this week, declaring that “there was nothing criminal about the death of Wahl.”

The autopsy found that “Grant died due to rupture of a gradually growing ascending aortic aortic aorta that was undiag with hemopericardium. The chest pressure he felt just before his death may have been the initial sign.”

An aortic aneurysm can be described as a balloon-shaped bulge found in the aorta, the main arterial responsible for carrying blood flow from the heart to the chest and the torso, as per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A rupture, one of the most common causes of death due to aortic aneurysms, is when the bulge ruptures completely, which causes bleeding within the body.

The CDC reported that aortic aneurysms, also known as aortic dissections, were the reason for 9904 deaths in 2019. Around 59% of these deaths occurred in men.

“No number or CPR or shocks could have helped his life. His death was not related to Covid. His death had nothing to do with the status of vaccination,” Gounder said.

The day before his collapse, Wahl said on his website that he was suffering from illness and that medical professionals in the area advised him that he might have bronchitis. The doctor prescribed antibiotics, he claimed.

The cold that I had experienced during the past 10 days grew more severe during that night during the game between the Netherlands and USA I felt my chest increase in degree of tension and discomfort.”

Gounder tweeted that it was a shock to hear that his passing was a “completely shocking experience.”
