She joined forces with Fleetwood Mac after marrying its bassist, John McVie, when the group was under the guidance of the guitarist and the band’s founder Peter Green.

“Chicken Shack was a regular venue for [Fleetwood Mac],” she told The Guardian in June 2022. “I met John and was in love with his music, which was amazing and thrilling. Fleetwood Mac was fantastic and hilarious.”

The group underwent several member changes before Stevie Nicks, and Lindsey Buckingham joined in 1974. The band exploded into superstardom.

McVie has written and performed several of their hit songs, including “Don’t Stop,” Over My Head,” You Make Love,” as well as “Say You Love Me.”

Fleetwood Mac underwent some instability as a result of both the dissolution of the McVies marriage and Buckingham and Nicks their relationships.

Buckingham chose to walk away from the group and start a new venture in 1987. Then came Nicks, who left in the year 1990.

McVie has also gone solo and released an album of her solo works earlier in the year titled “Songbird (A Solo collection).”

Although the group’s interpersonal tensions, their musical connection was evident, and eventually, they reunited.

“I wanted to love living within the English countryside and not need to trundle along on the roads. When I came to Kent, I enjoyed walking through the streets without knowing what I was. It was then that I began to feel sad,” McVie told The Guardian about her break of 16 years with Fleetwood Mac. “I phoned Mick and asked him, “What would you think of my return to the group? He called everyone, and we had a group meeting on the phone, and they all said, “Come to the party! I felt renewed and felt inspired to write again.”

In 1998, Fleetwood Mac was given a spot in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
