2023 Golden Globe Nominations: Snubs & Surprises

The Golden Globe nominations are out for 2023, and there were, as with all major awards shows, a decent number of surprises and snubs. However, before we do that, let us recap in the following order:

It’s the Banshees of Inisherin who is the best nominee of the year, with eight nods. They’re ahead of Everything Everyone All the Time at Once (six), Babylon (five), and The Fabelmans (five). Elvis, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, and the film TARare third with three nominations each.

On the other hand, Abbott Elementary is the leading nominee with five nods in front by The Crown, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Only Murders in the Building, Pam & Tommy, and The White Lotus, which have four nods each.

Three of the most popular female superstars, including Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift, are among the most original song nominees.

One of the most memorable original song nominations was co-written by the film’s director. Ryan Coogler, who directed Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, co-wrote the award-winning song “Lift Me Up.” Guillermo del Toro directed Guillermo Del Toro’s film Pinocchio, and Mark Gustafson co-wrote “Ciao Papa.”

Four out of five nominated for the best score are previous winners in the category. They include John Williams, who has been awarded a record-breaking multiple times, Alexandre Desplat, and Justin Hurwitz. Both are two-time winners of the category, as well as Hildur Gudnadottir, who took home the award three times. The only non-winner nominated would be Carter Burwell, who was Nominated in the film the role of The Banshees of Inisherin.

Jerrod Carmichael is scheduled to host the 80th Golden Globe Awards. The three-hour show will be broadcast live from coast to coast on Tuesday, January. 10th, 2023, beginning at 8. p.m. ET/5 p.m. at PT on The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif., on NBC and Peacock.

After you’ve caught up on the essentials, the fun part comes with the snubs and the surprises.

Snub: Tom Cruise

NOTES: Cruise was in this year’s no. one box-office smash, Top Gun: Maverick. It’s quite amazing for a person who is 60 to be a star in an action movie. However, he was snubbed aside for a prize for the best performance of an actor in motion picture drama. The cruise was awarded the award because of his character Ron Kovic in the 1989 film Born on July 4th.

Will Smith: Will Smith

Notables Smith took home the Globe for the best performance of an actor in motion picture drama in the year of King Richard. However, he wasn’t Nominated this time for his role in Emancipation. Smith’s behavior at the Academy Awards likely took a blow in this regard.

Surprise: Steve Martin

Notables Martin received a nomination for the best performances by actors on a television show – comedy or musical for the second time consecutively for his performance on The Only Murders of the Building. This isn’t the most surprising thing. The surprising part is the fact that he’s yet to be awarded the Golden Globe. The two nods to Only Murders follow nominations for the films Pennies from Heaven (1982), All of Me (1985), Roxanne (1988), Parenthood (1990), and Father of the Bride Part II (1996). Let’s hope that Martin’s “lucky” seventh nomination is lucky.

The Snub. Harry Styles

Notes: Globe people voted against Styles for his two 2022 movies. He wasn’t nominated as the best actor in a motion film dramatic for Don’t worry Darling or for the best actor playing a supporting character in a motion picture in the motion picture My Policeman. As a matter of fact, Styles did better with his music this year. He earned six Grammy nominations, including record, album, and song of the year.

Shout: George Clooney & Julia Roberts

Notes An important note is that the Globes are known for recognizing big stars, sometimes even in films that are not well-reviewed. However, these two adored stars were not nominated for their roles as lead actors in the romantic comedy “Ticket to Paradise. Roberts was awarded a nomination on the TV side for the best actress in an anthology, a limited series, or a motion film made for television. Gaslit.

Surprise: ‘Inu-oh’

NOTES: “Inu-oh is a film released by GKids and was nominated for a top motion picture – animated, beating out quality films such as Strange World and My Father’s Dragon.

The Snub of Adam Sandler: Adam Sandler

Notables Sandler has been omitted to be awarded the award for the best actor in a motion picture, musical, or comedy, for in the Netflix production Hustle. While he is among the most prominent comedy box office stars in the past 30 years, Sandler has received just one Globe nomination for Punch-Drunk Lovin’.

Snobs: Tom Hanks & Rita Wilson

Notables Hanks received a snub to be awarded the award for the most outstanding performances by actors in motion film – either comedy or musical for his performance as a character in The man Called Otto. He was the first recipient of a Globe in this section in the category of the role of Big 35 years ago. The wife of his, Rita Wilson, was overlooked for a mention of the most original song “Til You’re Home” that she composed in the context of the film.

Surprise: Jenna Ortega

NOTES: Ortega, 20 years old, has been nominated as the best actress by an actress in a TV show – comedy or musical for her part as a character in The Netflix show on Wednesday. The Globes claim she is the second-youngest nominated ever to be nominated for this award. Patty Duke was 19 when she was nominated to play “identical relatives” Patty and Cathy Lane on The Patty Duke Show in 1965.

Nod: Jason Bateman

Notables Laura Linney was nominated for the best performance of the actress of a TV film – drama for her performance of Ozark. However, Co-singer Jason Bateman was passed over to receive a nomination in the same category for the actor.

Snub: Tim McGraw

Notes: The country singer was not given an award for the best performance by an actor playing the role of a supporting character in a limited-series, motion picture, or anthology series produced for television for his performance as a character in The Paramount + show 1883.
